Have you heard this story about a fisherman’s daily life?
Nov 02, 2024A fisherman catches just enough fish each day to feed his family and sells a few extra fish to cover his basic needs.
A banker visits the village and suggests that the fisherman should fish for longer hours, catch more fish, and buy a bigger boat.
The banker outlines a plan where the fisherman could eventually own a fleet of boats, open a processing plant, and expand his business.
The banker explains that the fisherman could make millions and, after many years of hard work, retire early to a small village, enjoying a simple life of fishing, spending time with family, and relaxing.
The fisherman's response points out that he is already living that simple and fulfilling life right now.
Who is right?
I think they can both be right, or wrong and it all depends on what aligns most closely with their values and goals.
I think I have both the banker and the fisherman within me. I have a part of me that strives for the simple life, doing what I love and prioritising spending time with family and friends but I also have an ambitious part that loves that idea of chasing big bold dreams and achievement.
Who do you align with, and what advice would you give the fisherman?
